Awesome Nitro Video: What It Is Like To Drive The World’s Fastest Top Fuel Hydroplane!

Chad found an awesome video earlier this week of a nitro harley rider going on the worst ride of his life but coming out OK. This video has no wrecks in it but what it does is to profile racer Eddie Knox and more importantly, give us an awesome perspective on what it is like to drive the wildest machines ever devised for racing on the water, top fuel hydroplanes. Between in-boat, on boat, and other angles, you’ll see exactly how much driving is going on when Eddie let’s go of the rope, closes the hatch and ten drops the hammer on 8,000hp.

The engine in the boat is a former Kalitta Racing top fuel dragster engine and is virtually the same with respect to the tune up and power levels seen by racers on the asphalt. This is so wrong that it is right. While we’re never going to argue the testicular fortitude of nitro harley racers is lacking, we will say that we put the top fuel hydroplane guys right up there next to them in the sheer steel balls department. Look, these guys are racing on a track that never stops moving. On the best day there are still ripples and on the day this video was shot there was some real chop in the water, especially for craft running over 250!
